Focus Areas

The Orange County Justice Initiative will focus on issues concerning racial injustice, police brutality, criminal justice reform, immigration, economic injustice, LGBTQIA+ and human rights, environmental injustice, access to healthcare, access to quality education, community development and voting right suppression.

OCJ will conduct in-depth research that leads to new ideas for solving problems facing society at the local level within Orange County that the nation will eventually mirror.

OCJ will conduct analysis to help shape public debates over proposed budgets and tax policies that ensure policy makers consider the needs of people of color with an emphasis on centering black women's voices.

The O.C Justice Initiative will have a video, photography, and independent media team that will bring the community on the ground experiences of Activist, Community Leaders, and change makers within the community pushing to make systematic change.

Legislation & Action

OCJ In the past two year have advocated and fought for transformative legislation that address police accountability, protection of youth development, and the empowerment of BIPOC communities

AB 2441

This legislation would have empowerd educators, protects students, and restored educator discretion by Eliminating state mandates for school notification of police

AB 341

This bill would require police to adopt uniform, minimum guidelines regarding the use of canines by law enforcement legal standards established by the bill, and to certify courses of training for all law enforcement canine handlers and those law enforcement supervisors directly overseeing canine programs, as specified. The bill would require, on or before July 1, 2025, each law enforcement agency to maintain a policy for the use of canines by the agency that, at a minimum

Prop 6/ ACA 8

Proposition 6 enhances public safety and reduces recidivism by prioritizing rehabilitation, leading to significant cost savings for taxpayers.

Unarmed Traffic Patrols

Use civilian teams for routine traffic issues, eliminating the need for armed officers.

School Wellness Centers

Replace school resource officers with Student Safety Coaches trained in restorative justice and de-escalation.

Integrated Crisis Centers

Establish community-based crisis centers to provide comprehensive care for those in mental health or addiction crises, reducing police involvement.
